Who knows???

Does anyone know if the mx-6 engine fits in a 2nd gen (97) protege???

What would be the best swap to do in a 2nd gen pro???

thx in advance...

Anything is possible if you have the money, but realistically a V6 wont fit without some serious work. The best engine swap for us Gen 2's would either be a 1.8 liter swap (engine from the ES Gen 2) or the 1.8 liter BPT (1.8 liter turbo from the 1st gen pro). I am going to eventually swap in a 1.8 BPT into my 95 lx. I hope that helps.

What about a 2.0 L engine ? I want to eventually do an engine swap but want to start with one that will have the most options available and have the most hp to start with. I also want one that will fit comfortably in the engine compartment with not a ton of modifications done.

Like I said before, anything is possible with lots of money, but for an "ordinary joe" like most of us, we arent willing to fork over that much cash. A 2.0 liter would fit, but a lot of stuff would have to be moved around. You would probably have to move your battery and a few other things to the trunk. Lets just put it this way, the 1.8 liter BPT (turbo 1.8 liter) SQUEEZES in our engine bay. One of the things that changed from the 1st Gen to the 2nd Gen is engine compartment size. If our engine bay was as bing as the 1st gen's, a lot more could be accomplished.

Hey Jason,

Is the BPT a direct bolt-on affair for our G2 cars? This is what I like about Honda/Acura...alot of engines to choose from :)

Oz

No, its not a DIRECT bolt on. You would need the ECU, wiring harness, a tranny from either the 2nd Gen ES or any of the 1.8 liter 1st Gen's, motor mounts depending on what engine you have, axles, and some other stuff.

It may seem like a lot, but once you have everything organized, and you know what you need its not that bad. Probably the easiest thing to do is to find a 1st gen or a 2nd gen ES in a junkyard and strip it for whatever you need. You are right about honda/acura though. But depending on what engine swap they do, they come across some of the same probs.

If you have anymore questions, dont be afraid to ask.

OH!! The_Oz, I didnt even see that you had a Canadian Lx (1.8 liter) If I were you I wouldnt even do an engine swap. I would get a turbo manifold from corksport (i believe they are like $150 US) and buy a turbo, and make my own kit. You dont even need to go through the trouble of getting a BPT, because when you turbo yours, it will be pretty much the same thing!
