What else can be done for 1.5's??
I was thinking about what can be done to the 1.5 without going turbo to boost up the HP.... New throttle body? Bore intake manifold? Cams? Breather filters?..... Does anybody know anything about this kinda stuff, and how much it would cost?
Also, I would really appreciate if nobody answered with a smart comment like "buy a new car" or "you cant do anything for a 1.5." Thanks for the help. Jason |
Ok.... Well I have thought about the BP-T swap, but nobody seems to know what will be needed to make the swap complete. Some people say you will need the engine, and tranny. While others say I will need much more. I totally dropped that idea because I didnt want to buy the BP-T and then have to spend loads extra just to get it to work. Do you know what ALL will be need to make it work?

ok now to give you a good straight answer , we can do as follows, . but first I have to say thanks to the Man for giving a good answer above and not feeding us bull like other people on here do .............................................
anyway With the 1.5L you are limited by your funds basically , cause for one if you want there is this option ... I have researched this one thouroghly You can get a complete Gude head package from Gude racing , This will run you approximately 1000 to 1500 dollars , this come with the cylnder head ported and polished , the intake manifold throttle body , cams and I think a few other things .. Then you can also get Tri point to try and help you get an computer and fuel management system going for you ,as I have emailed them on this and confirmed they would help me... After tuning and getting the right feul going to the car, you should be looking at near 140 to 160 hp ,,, maybe more maybe less... not sure ..... As for swaping the ES motor into the protege, the only way this will be worth the money is the find a totaled ES protege (wich is hard as hell) and then strip it ... If you do however find a totaled es , wich may run you about a grand or so , then you can swap everything out and use it , . You will also be able to get the adjustable seats and also the power window and the remote trunk and so forth , you will also have a lot of parts that you can auction of on ebay hehe ... to make a extra buck ... this to be hones is the best way to go .. if you go this route ..... as opposed to buying the engine and then tranny and then harness and then ecu..... the two cars have different wiring harness and different computers , .. this was brought to my attention by a mazda tech at a dealer ... If you can get your hands on the es and get the work done ,, on ur own(saves labor) if its a shop( you'll need more money)(thus more expensive) ............ then it would be a good way to go.... Also if you want to you can go the NOS way , but you do have to be careful cause you don't want to blow your engine ,, and like some things in life it is a short thrill . wich basically costs to refill..... but a 50 shot can be hooked up in a matter of hours for a price of approx 500 - 600 bucks ,, maybe more maybe less... wanna know more holla back Bruce |
I would like to say thanks to TheMAN also, and Bruce as well for backing me up. I thought for sure I asked in the origianl post not for some SMARTASS ANSWER. But what do I know, maybe i'm just a dumbass....
Anyways, Bruce, have you already gotten the Gude package along with a computer and fuel management system from Tri Point, or are you still working on it? That idea doesnt sound bad at all. Now, back to the BP-T swap... Am I only limited to the ES tranny from a Gen2 or can I get a tranny of off a Gen1? I think it would be a lot easier to find one from a Gen1, than to look for a Gen2 ES. But I do need to get the mounts, half shafts, and cross member/subframes from an ES right? (Sorry for all the questions. Thank you for being patient.) Jason |
I have not gotten the gude package as I am thinking highly to install the turbo in my car, We are working on a group thing in wich good ol Braden is trying to hook something up to get them made ... I am really thinking of this as it is really close to a natural method of powering the car, I really just want to add approx another 20 to 30 hp to my car, if I can get in the range of 140 to 150 I would be happy ,, especially knowing that the car has plenty of power that can be used in the low end and the high end ..
as for the BPT it will drop in , but you will need a harness and ecu control ,, being as the bpt is ment for the pre94 pro's , the post 95 ecu;s may not work ,.. but it can be researched with a call to corksport,.. www.corksport.com ..... Bruce |
