Stock Intake
 

I don't have a manual in front of me but, on the stock intake there's tube that runs from the side to underneath where theres a small box that i believe is a resonater then goes into and inlet in the TB. Does that serve a purpose, or just to reduce noise. Starting to work on my CAI again and plan on just running hose in the same position to the TB. Also just curious. And I'm not sure if this is different from lx and dx models.

without that hose connected, when you start your car for the first time (cold start) your car will not idle.
That hose must be plumed into your new intake .. that is a must .

yeah i kinda realized that.... i was just wondering what the box was for

The white box is a resonator/water removel type of thing, or something of that sort kind. Sorry for being so vague, I thought I was funny :D . But I just finished building my CAI and I removed my white box along with everything else stock. If you like I will post some pics by the weekend.

turb, I think your intake system is different from the 95,
If I am not mistaken the 95 has 2 pipes going into it ..
the 97+ has 1 .
95 has the H box looking thing under the intake and the one that goes to the valve cover..

ok this looks like a decent pic, --

the extra hose that the 95-96 has that I don't think the 97+ has is that one that is running directly under the intake pipe and right under the throtle body opening(the thicker hose is the one I am refering to). I think that is the pipe he was speaking of. I have to look and see if I have a photo of a stock 97+ intake..

Ohh, yeah, I always forget about the second hose. Sorry guys if I misled anyone. In my case, hoever, I eliminated the only hose I had and replaced with a small breather filter. I will post pics tomorrow. Thanks, Bruce.

2 hoses. one to valve cover one to TB that runs underneath the intake piping.

Its a resonance chamber as i thought.

It IS a resonance chamber, it alters the air resonance to help the engine have a slightly higher midrange torque. They have these on the naturally aspirated MX-6's as well.

The blue line on Bruces picture is a Positive CrankCase Vent, You usually have two of these on a car. One with a valve that goes into your intake manifold, and one without a valve that goes into your intake tract.

Its pretty safe to remove them and put a breather, or if you want to have the safety of venting PCV gasses (I've seen older chevys explode from built up gas and sealed up PCV lines) then you can cut your line and put a small ford inline fuel filter in the line. It catches any oil blowby but lets the air through.
