the pacesetter one is around 60 and is nice you can get it at www.nopi.com or you can cut yours short or have a machine shop cut it and thread it for a decent price

would cutting it really help, i know the stick will be shorter, but wont the throws be the same? i thought that was the point

to be honest that is the only thing that really makes a short shifter a short shifter, is that its shorter than a normal one.

if you think about the ball at the bottom of the shifter as a point and draw a line to the top of the shifter and leave a point there then move the top of the shifter from say 1st to 2nd and leave a point at the top where it is in second and measure then distance then go down the shifer 3 or 4 inches and do the same measurement you will find a reduction in movement.

I always thought that the pivot point was placed higher on the shifter, thus making the top part shorter, and the part underneath longer.

I'm sure that moving the pivot point up more would shorten it even more. Mine is really short as it is so I like it a lot.

You are correct Ryan! That is in fact what makes a short shifter shorter. The whole unit is the same in length as a stock one, but the pivot point is moved further up the shaft (sounds sexual!). This creates a shorter "shifter" in the car and a longer part underneath, thus creating the need to go a shorter distance for the same and equal amount travelled before...

If cutting a shifter was the same as buying one, do you think Steven Papadakis would bother installing one?¿? Food for thought...

i agree that it does make it even shorter but there is a very noticible difference in shifting lenght in mine also

so where can i find a decent, not crazy priced one for my 97 protege?
