A quick question about transmission
 

Today I was cleaning the snow under neath my car, since, my car was buried under about 2 feet of snow and all.

I think i rev' the engine too high and i could smell the transmission fluid, i think :(

Anyway, how can you figure out if your transmission is about to die on you? I dont really want to get stuck in the middle of a beltway.
