PS belt removal.
 

Now that I'm back home for the holidays, and have my tools and a driveway to work in, I want to unhook my Power steering/AC belt for a few weeks to see what the difference is like. I know that the steering will be alot heavier without the power assist, which will give my scrawny arms a workout, but I was wondering if there would be any adverse effects to the steering rack itself, going from power assist to manual steering. Would the lack of power steering fliud flow cause any parts to wear faster than normal for example??

Ed B. (minirx7) did it on his car for a while and i don't recall him mentioning anything about that I was readig about it in some old posts on protegetech so i might have missed it, but he said he put it back on because the steering was too heavy for his liking.

Not really trying to postwhore my threads, but thats exactly why I wanted to do it. I didn't plan on keeping the belt off for long, maybe just the couple weeks that I'm home for Christmas break. I'd planned on getting it put back on when I get my timing and drive belts changed before I go back to school.

Disconnecting the power steering pump via the belt will not give you the same feel as a manual power steering system. It will in fact provide a lot more resistance and a bit less control. Like TheMAN said, it's pretty stupid, IMHO.

I wanted to know if doing this would fuck up anything in the steering system, ie. seals, o-rings etc. I already knew that the steering would be heavier as I stated in my original post. I wanted to know what might break.
