Hey Bruce if you go turbo make sure you upgrade your fuel pump. At the dealer where I work we have had a lot of 1.5's coming in running lean cause the regulator causes the pump to run 70-80 psi and I'm thinking at that pressure the pump can't deliver the volume needed to keep things right. Just a warning.

That's an interesting situation. It would run too rich at 80psi up till the point the pump reaches its efficieincy zone, then it will choke and either shut down or supply more than base fuel pressure to redline.

Not certain why a stock regulator would even have the capacity to up fuel pressure more than 3-5psi with the aid of a solenoid.

Bruce its the fuel pressure regulator. And Turboge your right about 3-5 psi for the reg. thats what it will alter fuel pressure when it is working but they get rust in them from the vacum line and it cause them to bypass and allow the pump to run max pressure. As a matter of fact we had a 98 1.5 in today with 75 psi and a code for bank one lean ,changed the reg and it was back to 35 at idle and 40 at throttle .
