Intake and Exhaust????

ok...If i was to put two mufflers on my pro would it do any harm and would I loose a lot of back pressure???? Also what is a good size piping that I should get put on if I'm going to do a cat back system????? Do those intakes that you just put the adopter on and then the cone work???? Thanks

On the intake, I think you do not even need an adapter. I just slapped a cone filter right on the MAF, and it works fine. Here is a pic of my previous setup (it slightly different from that now):

As for exhaust. You would not loose much back pressure with two mufflers, as you would with a good cat-back system. As for size, I guess it can be anywhere between 2"- 3". I also think it will cost you a lot of money getting the piping for two mufflers. But you have the funding, go for it, I have only seen one 2nd gen so far with two mufflers.

From what I've read on here thus far, it seems that smaller displacement naturally aspirated engines loose some low end torque with an exhaust that flows too freely. As for 2 mufflers, are you talking about going for a dual exhaust look?? I think that if anything 2 mufflers would increase back pressure, which might not be a good thing either. The general consensus is that 2 1/4'' is the ideal soze for a catback for our engines if you haven't gone turbo.

ok...how would two mufflers increase back pressure... and how is that bad... I would think that it would give you good torq.???? I dont' know though!!!! Yes I want the dual exhaust look!!!!! Ok...all i would do is take the piping that is coming from the cat and a little down the ways put a Y pip in and curve the piping to the other muffler!! Would that cause any harm???? Also I don't want the exhaust to just come out of one... I've seen that done too ... He has the look...but only one muffler actually puts out exhaust....so help me out aight...
PS. I'm not looking for speed....but I don't want to lose what I already have ok!!!! I"m basically going for styling that it!!!

was there any particular cone that I need to get to do this task???? ALso what does your setup look like now????

O.k., so you're going for the duals look. Thats fine, I just had some crazy idea at first that you were going to put them inline with each other. 2 mufflers would increase back pressure because one muffler creates back pressure, x 2 = more back pressure, thats my reasoning. Too much back pressure IS bad. Not saying that 2 muffs would make too much, I don't think it would.
As far as a little bit more back pressure making more torque on our engines, I don't know. Maybe, but someone who has more experience would be better to help you with that.

So by me putting two mufflers on my car it really wouldn't do that much to my car!!!???? If that is the case then I think that i would go ahead and do it...just get to mufflers that are the same..
I want it to look like this....

mufflers

just a thought if u can fit it under your car is a camaro or firebird muffler, it hads one inlet and two outlets. it would save space and money. one of my friends did it to his Neon to me it looks good. But it depends on if u want your duels far apart or not. I would just run one muffler and run a Y off the muffler if your not looking for power just looks. Cause on my S-10 im running a Y off my CAT to stright pipe out the back no mufflers. I gain a few hp and lost some back pressure and has not hurt anything yet been up there for 3 yrs but thats just my opinion

this is the Camaro muffler im talking about

with the intake , if you want to you can just slap on a filter, you just have to remove the intake box so that you have room to put the filter in ...

As for the muffler theory , if one is not functionable then I think it can be done , but to me I don't see the point , why not get one good muffler and install it , something stylish even like a carbon fiber muffler (look) .. I personally think that you should look into a turbo on your 1.5 ,, either that or swap in a 1.8 from a es , it is not that hard to fit the es motor in ,,... and your car will actually have some speed to keep up or even surpass the looks ... I tell you if I knew what I knew now 2 or 3 years ago ... my car would have a turbo already straped to it ... or even a 1.8T ...... look into it .. with proper funding and if you know people that can do the install you would be set .....

well have looked into the the turbo thing.... Weren't you the one that was going to put on your 1.5 lit/????? I've found the 1.8 off corksport and it is a grand for the motor. Also I plan to put that engine in when this enging blows up or till I save up the money to do it. How much does it cost to do the 1.5 lit turbo?????? I think that might be cheaper than going to get a new engine and everthing...

Now about the muffler....theory....I want to functionalbe mufflers.... But from what I see right now...it can be done...just by taking a y and running piping to them... The only thing is that if i was to add another muffler I would eighter have to cut my spare tire weel a little to fit the muffler or don't get one....

This is what the back looks like

the edge of the pic is the edge of the bumper...so if i was to put them on then I would want the other one to sit equally to the other one.... Well thanks for you help!!!

Here is the pic of that one car!!!! Click here

how many times do I have to say it....

YOU DON'T NEED BACK PRESSURE

Bruce95fmla January-25th-2003 12:55 AM

na something else that can be done is to get a stock es motor from a 95 es and drop that in and then strap on a vj-20 turbo with the manifold (from corksport) ... i was just looking at jess' page and that is what is or was on his escort .. and I am like hmmmmmm.........

as for the muffler ,, well they would have to find a way to run the pipping like under and to the side, with the kit you have , I doubt that anyone would be able to see it though ... so that may actually work out ... or you can have the run two pipes straight down the center of the car and spread out to the two sides, but god forgive if you ever bottom out as it will be spark city ... lol

So which do you think would cheaper and which would be a better deal?? The 1.8L T4cyl (BPturbo) w/approx 180 HP engine that corksport sells or to get the es engine and then add vj-20 turbo and exhaust manifold??? Also didn't someone add a turbo to the 1.5L????? I thought I read on here that someone was going to??? By the way what all is involved in adding a turbo... don't you have to change out a lot of parts????

Also I know someone that can do the work...but I was just checking to if I would run into problems or not...So far the only problem is the spare tire weel is in the way... Other than that...it can be done!!!

Green Skanka January-26th-2003 02:35 PM

i just have a question about your body kit. Where did you get it and what was the cost?

RacerX January-26th-2003 04:54 PM

ok...I got it from click here It cost me 530.25 for it. So far that was the cheapiest I found it!!!!!
