I need some advice on a custom intake
I was looking at Bruce's site and saw the custom cold intake how to and was wanting to do this. I do have a couple of questions though:
1. There are 2 hoses coming off of the stock intake do they both need to be on the new one and what are they for one is small and the other is a larger one? 2. What filter should I use? I was leaning towards K&N but am curious about others. I am new to the whole Protege world and import cars in general, I built muscle cars a few years back but got into puters. I should have no problems making cuts and holes in the pipe as I have all the tools from doing puter case mods. BTW: I have a '95 Protege LX 1.5l DOHC Thanx in advance....:D |
well if you want a intake that will fit right in , with no problems you can get the ractive intake , from www.toucanindustries.com I am really thinking about purchasing this intake again . It looks really cool also,, but is more expensive than a custom intake .
If you were to mess with a civic intake , then you would have to cut the intake to fit fromt the throttle body to the front chassis , with the mas and the filter in place for the most accuracy . There are 2 black hoses that you really can't see that are under the intake hose , these two have to be routed into the intake tubing also , note: ractive intake provides fitting for these, other than that everything else is a push and a squeze and a tighten this and smoosh that lol Bruce |
If you have any more q's feal free to ask ok
any one of us in here will try and answer your question or refer it to a section of the FAQ Bruce |
Hey Bruce, how much are those Ractive intakes anyway? I've been having trouble getting through to Toucan, so I was wondering if you knew.
Thanx |
I found it but cant see the purchase info. I am going to try and call them tomorrow..

I know there was a place that I bought it from in canada ,, it was calles something like , www.autotoys.com or something like that
I have the hardest time remebering what the name of the site is Bruce |
ok guys click here for the link to the intake , I searched that site up and down and finally found in , the price is 89.00 bucks , maybe 100 with shipping , I think I may order one again ..
Bruce oh btw , if it does not come with the filter with the sheild on it then you will want to get a better one cause that one is not all that great at all |
Hey I got it. Thanx again for your info and input Bruce! I wonder why it says only up to '96 tho? Anyways, I might be ordering that soon. Now, how bad is this going to confuse the computer? Am I going to have to piggyback the MAS, or replace it or just leave it alone for now? Also, if there's more air going in, wouldn't I need more fuel as well? I understand the basics of all this, but I'd like to get into the mechanics a little more, how things are affected.
Once again, Bruce, you are da man! Thanx! |
did anyone ever find a way to connect the hose on the bottom near the throttle body to that ractive intake pipe? last time i had the ractive intake in i was having some cold start problems so i'm assuming the hose is for the cold start, thats why i went back to stock

Hey Bruce, Is that Ractive intake any good?
|
the filter is garbage you will want to change that and get a better filter , other wise it is good , yes it is
Bruce looks good as hell also |
So would you recommend a K&N filter, since they seem to be the air filter of choice for Pro's? or does it really matter?
