I have the same problem! I'm thinking it's time for a valve adjustment, any suggestions?

I have a 1995, which is what gen?

The ticking / clicking noise is really loud when the car is cold started. Once the car warms up alittle, the noise quiets down.

I'm pretty sure it needs a valve adjustment but are they adjustable?

If not, then how is the ticking / clicking noise to be fixed?

Also, I'm still experiencing that high pitched noise only when accelerating. Could the above mentioned be part of the problem or is it something else?

I don't think their's something we can do about.
I tried different oil and the ticking is still there from the day I got the car.
It's just some annoying hydraulic lifters. I know you can change them for the solid lifters use in some miata but I don't think it worth the cost.
Anyways it's not suppose to be bad for the engine, it's just an annoying noise...
For colder climate you can try 5w30 to quiet down the noise at start. I tried 15w50 Mobil1 this summer and it was a bit quieter but if you open the hood you can still ear it a bit.
Now I'm back with the old 10w30 Mobil1 and it's good after a complete war-up, after the rpm goes back to a 850rpm idle. But there's always a little ticking even after the engine is at normal temp.

I recently changed my oil to 5W30 and have been driving for 3500kms on this oil. Will 10W30 lessen the noise when warm. I mean, all are cars sound like crap when cold. Will the 10W30 allow the engine to be quieter when warm? This of course does not make sense as they both have a weight of 30 when warm.....I had used 10W30 up until 3500kms ago and now ticking is loud when warm. And yes I checked oil and its up! :) Engine temp is normal!

I am also under waranty as mines a 01! Are dealers doing anything for this problem or are they just turning customers away, saying its normal and will not harm the engine?

Thanks guys and Gals! :)
