First you need to find an intake. I don't think there really is one available for our cars. You can custom make one for pretty cheap. There isn't any wiring needed to be done, but make sure that if your Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor is not integrated into the MAF as some are, to drill a hole in your intake to mount it.

There should be instructions. It really isn't that hard just replace the intake pipes and filter with the new ones.
This should be moved to the proper forum however. Moderators??

First of all, in 97 model, you really need to worry about your air temp sensor. But I am not sure how it is on 1.8L engine. Because on my 1.5L custom build intake, I had to relocate my ATS behind the MAF, and now my mileage is sh*t, please pardon my french. I guess I have heard people buying intakes made for 95-96 models from www.autotoyaz.com, and they had to do little to none modifications. Good luck.

Second of all this thread is in a wrong forum. It needs to be in Engine / Drivetrain Forum.

On the 1997, w/ 1.8 some of the IAT sensors are integrated into the MAF.

hmmm , for the 1.8 ,, i don't know if the Ractive , I have would work , but I guess u could try it ,, I don't see why not , I got it from www.autotoys.com , when I get my 1.8L i will know for sure, I wish you good luck and look at it like this , if you can get this intake and it does not fit, I will gladly let you post it's pic on my site with your contact info so you can sell it to a 1.5Liter owner ...

I just bought an intake for my '97 1.5L.

i got one for a 2002 protege off of e-bay. It has the hole with a grommet attached to it fo the IAT. There was no custom wok needed, except to mount it, and it woks great.
