Clutch
 

My clutch is starting to show signs of wear, at least I hope it's the clutch. So far it has slipped 3 times on me. When shifting down from 3rd to second, I let off the clutch, and the car was going around 15mph, the RPMs hung around 4000. Same thing happned but from fourth to third and higher speed, and going from 4th to 5th on the highway, the RPMs were steady at 3000, the car was at like 50mph and it slowly accelerated to 60 some miles without any RPM increase.

What I'm wondering is if I should just go ahead and buy an oem clutch and replace that, or would I gain anything from buying a kit from say ACT. This is really the first stick I own, you can even say car, so I'm not sure if it's worth it to put money into a performance clutch kit or not. Any info would be appreciated.

BTW, I drive a 98 Pro LX.

Hell yeah, I enjoy spirited driving. :D

I still didn't find a track close to my place, and only had the car for a month, so I haven't raced yet, but once I find a place (and get the pro running smoothly), I'de race.

this is what i suggest

get the centreforce dual friction
it is meant for factory flywheels
the pedal pressure is like stock if not softer

yet it grabs way harder than a stock

now they do have to be broken in properly or they wont last long

i think its something like 500 city driven miles before u give the clutch full power
if u dont break it in, u will surely kill it

and they are silent compared to other brands, no chattering or anythign....

i know 2 people with them and they have no problems at all

i figure they are good for the street driven car and the weekend racer

its what im getting if i dont get an aluminum flywheel

i know a guy with an 89 beretta, and a 93 mx6
both have the centreforce dual friction....

the beretta had it for 6000 kms
and the mx6 for like 400kms

so neither of them really had that much time to give it a chance to slip....

come to think of it, the beretta's is slipping, but that was because a bearing got toasted and blew grease all over it...

ive read reviews on the internet, and people seemed to like the centerforce...

well, everyone except the people that burned them out and then whet to ACT...
they seemed to like their ACT's...


but other reviews on the ACT's say they make some chattering noises....

i just figured for someone that wasnt gonna beat on it too hard, the centerforce would be good cause it maintained stock pedal feel

did you follow the proper break in procedures?
and did u race and stuff in it??

I would not get the centerforce, I would more stick to the ACT , cause I knew another guy , In Canada , that had it in his ES 1.8 and was saying the same thing J is , damn thing slips and the pedal pressure is weird as hell ,,, among other annoyances , now the ACT now is a different story ...

what is actually making that chattering noise??

cause i heard ACT's do that....
