Check engine light?
My check engine light has been popping on and off over the last month. Originally we thought it was just my spark plug wires so we changed that and it went away for a while but ocassionally it pops back on and I've notice a bit more carbon residue (black soot) on the inside edge of my exhaust pipe. I am wondering if my O2 sensors went bad. Any ideas from anyone would be great.

You'll have to take it to someone who has an OBDII scanner/diagnostic tool. That's what I did, found out that my fuel level sensor had gone awry. Should just cost you $20US to have someone plug a tool beside your hood lever and check what the engine code is. Oh, and it only took my mechanic 2 minutes to find out what the error code was.

TO check the o2 sensor disconect the sensor after running the car to normal operating temp. then put a voltmeter to one side of the plug or the other and it should read 1 volt beacuse the sensors are heated so if no reading then youv'e got a bad srensor.
