:( I found out one day that the previous owner had removed the little receiver for the Check Engine Light bulb. Well when I had checked that, I was looking at all the different bulbs and when putting it all back together it turned out that my left turn signal light wasn't working.

After a week of lazy-ness today I took out the instrument cluster today and cleaned the terminals and what-not ('cause after I bought the car I found out it had been flooded previously) and I noticed there was a bulb in the Cruise Control part and since my car doesn't have cruise control I took it out and put it in the CEL area. Started the car and not to my surprise *BLING* It turned on :(

Now my questions is:
How much is the running rate of cost for OBD II diagnostics? I asked a buddy of mine once and he told me where I could take it and told me it would cost aprox. $70 and I was like.. :eek:

I have the Haynes manual but it doens't tell me how to do it nor does it give me the codes. It says:
"This procedure does not include the diagnostic codes or the code extracting procedure for 1995 or later models equipped with the OBD II system. These models require a special SCAN tool to read out the various levels of coded information. Have the 1995 or later models diagnosed by a dealer service department or other qualified repair shop in the event of computer failure"

UPDATE
I re-read your reply... I'm not sure if my 2nd Gen has OBD 1 or 2
There is a diagnostics port in the engine bay but I think there is one also under the dash.

Thank you for clarifying that and helping me. I'll try out the steps listed in the Haynes manual.

I was told that it was OBD 2 and I've seen/read fellow owners here talking about the scan so that's why I thought I had an
OBD 2

Tried what the Haynes manual said but the light didn't flash and but it stayed on. I t says to connect a jumper (cable) from the GND pin to the TEN pin and I did just that. Then put in the key and turned it to ON but didn't start up the motor. The light stayed on and didn't flash.

I'm guessing that I will have to take it to someone with an OBD 2. A buddy of mine that works @ PepBoys said that they charge $60 and I asked him if there was anyway to do it on the side and he said he couldn't cause he has to sign for the OBD 2 thingy 'cause someone stole one previously. DAMN! If not I'll go one by one checking the sensors with a multimeter (using the Haynes manual also)

I bought a simple OBD2 code reader from O-Reillys for $130. It was that or pay the dealer $85 just to plug it in.
I've used it three times now on a couple different cars, so it's pretty much paid for itself.
