I'm pretty stuck right now as to whats missing/broken, so I'm thinking I'll just take it over to the Mazda dealership. They can at least show me whats wrong - maybe they'll even be able to sell me the parts to fix it myself.

Anyone know how much a selenoid runs?

you could still drive without that solenoid. go to a junk yard and find one for $5 or something. I have a feeling the dealship would ask something like $40 or something. I remember one time I was looking for a fog light switch and it was like $60. Good luck!

Yep...best bet might be to find out what i need from the dealer, then head over to the junkyard.

I've also got a mechanic friend - if I get in over my head I could always have him fix it.


Then again, I suppose it doesn't really need fixing.... If it's cheap, I might go ahead and have it done.

Before you do anything make sure all your brake lights are working !!!! why you ask well the samething that is happening to you happen to me about 5 months ago on my 97 protege and to find out all that was wrong was that my third brake light was busted .
after I change the bulb everything was back to normal !!
