Automatic Racing?

Iight heres my question,
I just bought a 98 LX Protege (Hold you applause)
and so i was wondering because it was automatic how much will that hinder my racing,

Also you have D - Drive but what about the 4-3-2-1 or something like that, I heard they change the way the car will change the gears, help

Unfortunately, auto tranny is only good for cruising, and mileage. Other then that, there is nothing you can do to make the car go faster by shifting the gears.

You could torque it when you're starting. IE hold the brake pedal and hit the gas. Keep in mind that doing this heats your Trans fluid up REALLY QUICK and thats not good. A guy that taught me in my apprenticeship course said that within about 20 seconds the temperature can go up over 400 degrees and thats not good. SO if you want to do it, don't do it for very long.

i got an auto too...
my friend tuned the car for me...
he adjust the kick down cable....it makes the car go abit more quicker at drag...but it makes the car SO NOT SMOOTH when crusing...i think is bad for the gear box too

People who say you cant race a automatic are WRONG, ill admit its easier to race someone in a standard, but you can still race an automic, you just need to know how to work you engineen, and you aso have to have a lil better of an engineen

Its all good you can still race with an automatic infact im getting pretty good, and ive beaten quite a few people

I had an auto in which i got a guy in a shop to tweak abit. I could bark second but the abuse only let the tranny survive for a little less than 20,000 miles. Anyway the lack of torque sucked but im gettin a manual now so no biggie...but i wouldnt advise shifting the auto from 1-2-3 cause it will rip it out alot faster..

If we're talking drag race...a performance oriented, beefy automatic will do great. Look at all the domestic drag racers...they prefer it.
But a stock automatic will give up the ghost sooner(not later)

If we're talking autox, roadrace...well, enjoy the seat time because it will be really hard to be competitive, no matter how well you work the "engineen"
