*URGENT* Motor Mount Help
 

*URGENT* I have the engine supported by a hoist and I already replaced the front engine mount on my 1.8 I'm trying to replace the back one but I don't think I have enough space to stick a wrench or socket in betweeen the engine mount and the firewall. Can anyone help me. Note: I'm not talking about the through bolt I'm talking about the nuts that secure the angine mount to the body.

polito dat mount u talking bout is a pain in the ass
i watch my mechanic struggle wid dat.
the guy had to pull down the sub frame get a really long slender tool put it between a small lil space and tek he time wid that mount
i never hope to break that mount again cuz it was painful as hell (i helped)

Besides being a bump message I want to tell everyone that I tried to lower the piece of chassis that holds the rack and pinion and motor mount to have some more clearence to the bolts, but just before loosening the last bolt I notice that the part I want to lower is "welded" or permanently attached to the body of the car. I 'm thinking of stopping by a Mazda dealership/service place and try to sneak the question to a mechanic.

WHAT IN GOD'S NAME SHOULD I DO?

Well since no one could help I took the car to a mechanic. He said that he had done the engine mount on another protege just like mine and that he would charge me $35 to do it. (Me having the engine mount) So I brought it in the next day and when he got under the car he noticed it was different. It doesn't have the engine mount on the bottom of the car. It has it on the middle of the firewall. So we started by loosening 4 bolts on each side that hold the crossmember then a nut on each side that's near the shocks. Before loosening the crossmember I took out the screw that hold the steering column to the rack & pinion and the hoses that are next to the valve cover. We proceeded to loosen the front engine mount and the protective plate that goes from front to back. Also loosened the shifter bars. Loosened the top of the shocks and we FINALLY had some access from above with a LOONG extension and TWO "swivel" attachments (correct me here if it's called something else) and a 17mm socket. After breaking an extension and a differnet swivel attachment. We replaced it and finally it's fixed.

I ought to make a HOW-TO shouldn't I? I've typed too many messages right now so my hands are kinda tired. I'll do it another day. Now the only thing I worried about is an oil leak I have and tranny sounds.
