weird squealing

ok on my way to work this morn i was booting down the road when i get a squealing, like really loud, so i turn the engine off and coast off the road to a complete stop, only when i stopped completly did the squealing stop, the car was off while i was rolling

its sounds like a banchee in heat or sumthin its loud and it sounded like it came from the oppisate side of the belts in the engine bay,

the temp was -18C and the car wasnt moved in two days, my anti freeze is rated for -45c

any ideas? thanks

Check if belts are too tight / loose. They usually make that annoying sound. Did you hear the sound before the car was completely warmed up?

yes i did hear it before the car was warm

my car also does that a lot when it is cold outside and i have not given it time to warm up. i think it is a problem with the belts but not sure.

You didn't happen to see blood and a sh*%load of catfur floating around the engine bay, did you??

The thing to look at is that it makes the noise with the engine off and the car rolling. I'd check your brake pads. When they get to a certain wear level, there is a little clip that comes into contact with the brakes and makes a horrible, piercing squeal. The idea is to make you WANT to get your pads changed before you do damage to the rotors (or lose the ability to stop).
