Stupid seatbelt
 

I have the automatic seatbelts on my 94 Pro. Just recently, the passenger side seatbelt doesn't want to move when I open the door, it just stays there. Does any one know what's wrong with it, and how the hell do I fix it?:mad:

(if you have not checked already) It could have to much tension - if the seatbelt is locked the slider wont be able to move

It's possible the sensor in the door that detects when it is open could be bad too. This is not the pin sensor that activates the dome light.

Yes, I hate that. Mine only doesn't work when the engine light is off. My seatbelt light and buzzer also likes to go off at random. I'm abou to disconnect the lead and turn the seatbelt light into a shift indicator or something...

i also think u should check ur sensor, sometimes it gets screwed. i had the same problem, but in my case the button near the seat was messed up.
Talking of seatbelts i have an automatic one too, but they dont do the job of holding one to position. I mean i could pull the belt all the way to the front. Its like almost not having a seatbelt. Its really loose. The same for both the driver and passenger side.

Yeah the seatblets were a poor design in my opinion. I don't feel too safe compared to other cars.

...I dunno.... even though passive belts like this were deemed unsafe they've actually worked better in my experience (w/Lap belt on) than old-fashioned seatbelts in accidents. Mine are kinda overly sensitive though. They pull back pretty hard sometimes if I hit my brakes in an emergency...

...my mom's 626 never locks up... possibly cos it got airbags??

ive been told that there was a recall on the seatbelts and retractors. all you have to do is go to your local Mazda dealer and they are supposed to fix them free of charge.

yep there was a recall, goto mazdas site put in your lil number and see what is still covered, doesnt matter if you bought your car used they will still honor it!

The stupid buzzer and dash light keeps going off on my shoulder belt. I have to pull the belt out a little from the center console to get it to stop. What I do now is to wrap the belt around the front the lap buckle so it stays extended just a bit, but I don't like that because the shoulder belt isn't securely against my chest then. Is there some kind of switch inside the center console that I can defeat?

Yeah Beachnut, you can fix that buzzer problem!

Mine did the same thing and it sucked, my wife hated riding with me cause of it (and maybe cause I drive to fast too) anyway here is the fix.

Remove the center console (4 screws), under the console toward the back you will see where the belt roles up, on the back of that you will see wires running under some plastic caps. Remove the cap from the offending seatbelt. Then you will see a black plastic plate that the wires connect to, slide it out flip it over and clean it of any corrosion, apply some dielectric grease if you have it, then look under where it came from you will see a white plastic piece with springy metal contacts on it pull it out ( observe how it is positioned ) pull on the contacts to make them stick out more so when you put it back together they will push harder on the black plate. that should fix your problem just put it back together now. If it dose not stop look at the pattern on the back side of the black plate and make sure that when you pull out your seatbelt and the little white piece rotates that it always makes contact with the metal track. if not pull out rotate it so that it will then reinsert.

takes 5 min and then no more
