stall at highway speeds

My wife has a 93 Protege DX (SOHC), and it has picked up an annoying problem of stalling when you go from high RPM to low rpm -- such as when lifting off the accellerator to exit a freeway. This is kind of dangerous, because you lose things like power steering.

I had the same problem with my 93 Protege DX before I sold it, so that means this problem has happened on this car at least twice.

Any suggestions, ideas?

I did a search for "stall", and the closest problem to mine that I found was where stalling at idle occurred due to a leaky air hose. I'll inspect that, but in the meantime, if anybody has other good ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

check the air hose and I would suggest putting in some fuel injector cleaner............it might help out a little..........give it a try

i already know you're probably going to hate this replay  but here goes anyway..... i have a 93 dx 5 speed and have never had or heard of this problem, but... yes there is a butt :booty: (come on, you knew the little picture was coming, lol) it could be an exagerated problem that a bunch of us are having with our idle dropping below 750 rpm's and shuddering and such, your scenario could be that it's just dropping so low that the engine is stalling out.... the link to that thread is http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...&threadid=5370 .... i hope this helps cause it's the only thing i can think of that it could be and there are a bunch of us working together trying to remedy this problem.... :barf:

I had the same problem, but it only happened after i left the lights on and drained the battery, so i just stopped leaving the lights on :D . Oh, another thing to check is that your battery cables are connected firmly, i think that was the problem w/ mine altho i cant really remember...
