side moldings

how hard is it to take the side moldings off? can they easily be put back on?

TaiMaiShu August-3rd-2003 11:10 PM

why?

marc93lx August-4th-2003 12:36 AM

They just pull rite off. They are only glued. All you would have to do to put them back on is to use that 3M foam two sided sticky stuff.

what marc said was right, as you can see the results in his signature. look at this thread and you can get a good idea of what a white car looks like when you paint the door moldings.

IMHO, on my car, i think this looks 1000 times better when you paint the bumpers along with it. this is alot of work, and just pulling your door moldings would take you 1/2 to an hour to pull off and clean off the adheasive... my project actually took me about 3 hours to give a good coat on the door moldings alone (with drying time of course), but the result is better as far as i'm concerned. and if you do it, you'd probably be the 2nd one to do it :) . definately a unique mod.
peace
ps correction, Bizob did this on his car, but as you know, everything about his car is crazy as far as the exterior is concerned. he's got the best lookin first gen as far as i'm concerned, just could use some insanely large rims on his car ;)

Liquid_Ag August-4th-2003 06:59 AM

lol, yeah, ur car looks wonderful demon, but dad has strick rules about not spending any more money on my car (why im going all engine internals ;) ) so i was looking for cheap/free stuff to do that looks good

marc93lx August-4th-2003 01:23 PM

I would have to agree with demon about painting the black on the bumpers also. That is something I still want to do because it looks incomplete without it done. Also it really is a bitch to get all the sticky shit off the car. I think either way you go it will still look bitchin! And either way I would still paint the black on the bumpers the same color as the car, thats my next project.

hey marc, can u post more pics of it minus the side moldings?

NoFear August-4th-2003 08:05 PM

How about painting the door moldings, That probably would'nt look too bad.

Liquid_Ag August-4th-2003 08:29 PM

it would prolly look real good...but lotsa time and some $$, and ive already got stipulations bout that

Vormav August-4th-2003 10:48 PM

jus a little warning.. getting the glue off its really freasking annoying an time consuming.. i had the mouldings off on my car because it was missing two to begin with.. this was before the tree incident .. it took me a good 2 days to get it all off.. i got so fed up with it i ended up sanding it off with really fine grit paper.. then primed an painted over it... then again i have no patience for taking stuff liek that off.. so i did it the hard way..but yeah.. gettin the glue off is difenately annoying

marc93lx August-5th-2003 01:34 AM

Just get some adhesive remover and a PLASTIC scraper. Works real well. Do a test spot with the adhesive remover just in case.

Felix Wankel August-6th-2003 08:15 PM

go to NAPA and buy an adhesive removing wheel. chuck it in a drill and it takes the glue right off. all you have to do is wax it afterwards.
