shifter

my apologies if this has been posted before.
My shifter keeps falling through. All I do is pull it back out, and it's temporairly ok. Am I shifting too hard? Is there even a cure for this?

possibly your retaining spring is gone/not holding tension?

protegespeed March-31st-2004 04:01 PM

same exact thing with my 93 pro

that happened in my car i leaned on it one day and it fell through their is a rubber busing that holds the shifter in place check that
my fix... weld it wont ever do it again

if the whole shifter is falling through, than the same thing happened on my 90LX when I had it.. I had mine at the tranny shop getting a new clutch, They welded it back up to the bottom of the car..

Should be a cheap fix..

My 94 DX also did it, but wasn't as easy at the 90LX, design is a little different.. Got it fix also by welding, just not the same way..

the rubber bushing falls through easily....my step dad thinks he has to push down really hard to get it into reverse.....fix it by pulling up on it and use a screw driver to pry the rubber up.....saves welding it and it works.....just dont grease it to help....goes back down just as easy

There are two white plastic rings, and a spring to hold it in. I don't recall there being any rubber bushings

And here's what it should be like, in illustrated form...
