Sealing rad leak
 

Can I seal a rad leak with high-temp silicone? The leak is where the tank is crimped to the core, and its smelly and steams, and I have to add coolant everyonce in a while :p

I can't afford a new rad and my rad is in minty condition besides the leak of course :)

try JB Weld.

Anything you do to the radiator to seal the leak will be temporary. If funds are that limited, try going to a junkyard to and get a used one. Shouldn't be that expensive at all.

If you plan on getting a junkyard rad, go to Miller's in Ft. Erie, I was there in the summer and remember seeing several first gen protege's in there. They've probably got a rad to fit your car there.

haha... replace it with a junk yard rad, it's your best bet. i've heard of a steel weld type of junk you can bunch up on top of the radiator, or you can always appoxy weld the s.o.b., but it won't last much more than 1 or 2 weeks. mine only lasted 2 when i patched my radiator.

When mine cracked on top I tried to patch it. First I used some epoxy stuff, but that didn't work for long. The next time I patched it I used some putty shit from auto zone. It was plastic repair putty or something like that (You squish it together and it becomes hard after a while) That stuff worked longer than the epoxy but eventually failed and I just ended up buying a new one. Got it on eBay for real chaep, it had a metal top instead of the shitty plastic stock one. Unfortunatly I think you will eventually have to buy a new one. Check eBay, I think I only paid about $40 bucks or so.

Well, if it will adhere to the leak in the radiator and clog the leak then yes it might just clog other shit up too.
