Running A/C makes engine "lose power"

I've been noticing this on my protege for quite a while now. It seems that every time I run my air conditioner, my engine seems to lose power. Has anyone else had this problem, and what tha hell could be causing it? =)

this sounds a lot like sarcasm but I'll bite anyway.....

your ac compressor causes drag when the clutch is engaged. This extra load on your engine detracts from sending power to the wheels....in laymans terms. It happens on EVERY car but its most noticeable on lower powered cars.
