Ranting...

Anyone ever notice the little "shortcuts" Mazda took with the Protege? All the little things:

And I know these aren't exclusive to Mazdas or Proteges but...

The spare tire! Could be a REAL tire on a REAL rim. Why a donut?!?

Power locks.... I don't have 'em but I've heard they're a really crappy design...

Hazard light. Gets to be a pain when your passenger can't resist the big red button in the middle of your dash...

Fuse box. I mean, come on... Ever tried pulling the fuse if something non-essential stops working, like if your horn gets stuck? Car won't start, other assorted things don't work!

The seats. They're like sitting on a rock!

The brakes squeak! Arrrrrrrghhhhh!!!!!

And then there's the automatic transmission. Anyone with an auto knows what I'm talking about.

Anyway, just my 2 cents on things Mazda screwed the pooch on.... Realizing at the same time that doing these things right would have upped the price.

The spare tire! Could be a REAL tire on a REAL rim. Why a donut?!? It would take up to much space

Junk...

Don't know about everyone elses protege... but mine sucks. Everything was goin soo smooth a couple weeks ago. But then my stupid automatic seatbelt got stuck in the forward position and the belt motor just makes a wierd clicking noise the whole way down the road. My inside lights mysteriously stopped working and it isn't the fuse. And my automatic transmition slips or something when I accelerate quickly (quick for a 1994 protege dx stock automatic that is). I really want to fix this car up... just to show it can be done... but it's like this thing manifests it's own problems just so you can't fix it!...

The solution

enjoy!

By the way, according to a service reciept I found, there is a lifetime warranty on the sliding seat-belts, due to a recall (or maybe California safety legistation or something). You might want to inquire about that.

The stock (for the DX anyway) 13" rim (with tire, duh) fits perfectly into the spare tire spot.

lol thats what i was thinking forever. Car comes with 13inch wheels.......hello thats like the same size as some spare tires to begin with, just give us a tire and a steelie and claim the benefits of putting 13s on the car.

lol, the spare on my DX was a 14", while the car rode on 13s. They are also that space saver size to save weight. Next time you get new tires just tell them to put an old one on the spare, if it fits.

are you serious? our cars ride on 13's? holy dogshit, i had no idea.

First off, i agree with the red button, why cant it be american, with it on the steering column....

And as the auto tranny goes, they are better for off the line in a drag..., you can always manual shift if u wanted to, and its less of a pain in the ass while on a steep hill.... so check yourself befor you go puttin down things that u have no clue about...

MazdaMadness Aug 14, 2003 03:34 PM

oh come on! the hazard button is soooo coool!!! like a self destruct button or something, about the seatbelts, i dont have that anoying buzzer, and the brakes NEVER squeeked! i definitly agree on the 13":(
