Protege vs. Escort GT

Had a 94 Ford Escort GT before my 02 Mazda Protege. Heard the Escort was based on the 1st gen Protege. I had the 127hp GT (believe it was an old Mita Engine).

Anyone know the similarities/ differences between the Escort GT and 1st gen Protege?

Matthew

What differences do you need to know? I have vast knowlege about 2nd gen escorts and 1st gen proteges. The motor,tranni and chassis are the same. Tha motor has some differences between the 2. No mbsp in the escort gt motor. Big nose crank differences ect ect. Just ask a question and I'll be more than happy too answer it as long as I have the knowlege. If I don't have the answer I will ask my many 1st gen prtoege friends

Thanks for the info. What is mbsp. Other question I have is if suspension set up was similar. Had a lot of fun in my 94 Escort GT.

msbp=main bearing support plate

The suspension on the protege 1st gen and the 2nd gen escort is the same. There are alot of secrets about the suspension. Like mx3 lca's and rear links put on a protege will give you a 30mm extra width. mx3 v6 has a rear lower tie bar that can be added to the protege/escort. ZX2 sr struts are made by tokico and perform just as well as tokico blues and are a direct fit. There's more lol.
