Odometer reading & year?
Curious to what kind of engine life to expect
from my Protege, as I get the idea that at only 133,242 miles, I can expect a lot more. I haven't had mine too long. However, looking over the partial repair history not much has gone wrong. -60506 miles, Timing belt -67079 miles, Alternator Belt -85,576 miles, (2) CV boots. -125,420 miles, Alternator What does your odometer say? What is the year and drivetrain, automatic, 5 speed, dx, 4wd? Any major repairs during the years? 90 Protege 1.8l sohc 4WD 5speed overdrive. Thanks for the replies. |

Alternator also at 180,000 miles, also just in case. Radiator last year at 180,000 miles, leaking A/C re-done last year with new compressor Shocks and struts at 140,000 niles Three sets of front brake pads, one set of rotors Two sets of reaer brake pads Three sets of summer tires, one set of snow tires. A leaking rear brake cyclider at about 60,000 miles Replaced jammed linkage to rear view mirrors Rear door locks are sticky - need to get them lubed or something. The engine and transmisssion have been great. They act like they have another 100,000 miles in them. That's about it, It still has the original clutch. |

'91 DX, 5-sp. Owned since new. Purchased June, 1991.
Odometer currently reads 264, 974 miles. New distributor at 264,955 - oil leak into rotor -- car would no longer fire. First time ever that the car didn't start. New front axles, brake master cylinder, 2 radiators, primary cooling fan, water pump, a/c compressor, and struts at various points during the life of the car -- plus normal maintenance, of course. Still has original alternator, starter, voltage regulator, battery cables, secondary cooling fan, head gasket.....etc. Never have fixed that (slightly) annoying seat belt beep for which the remedy has so often been posted here. Gonna be a sad day when I have to give it up -- if I live that long. What a great car. But, man, the new 3 is an incredible temptation! I'll never buy another make. |
ehhhh
99' proege Dx 5 speed auto. 92,658 miles (mostly hwy miles) engine steamed oil changes trans fluid change hell standard oil and liquid change new pads for front.. new timing need motor (i guess, or somehow i could repair it) basic rotations new stock air intake fuel injectors spark pluggs new stock muffler need oil pump (im working on it) |
Wait.....remembered a couple of other things:
Oil pan -- drain plug stripped from so many changes, plus maybe some beginners at the quick lube place. Engine seals (not sure which ones) coolant temp sensor another sensor or two couple of thermostats fuel door lever doesn't open the flap very well - but I manage - must carefully use house key to gently pry open have replaced two fuses (inside the vehicle in that little compartment to the left of the driver) still original motor and transmission new right front window due to vandalism never had an accident (thank goodness) new rear defrost button (which is cantankerous) Well....still a great car! |
