is my powersteering broken ?

Seems really stiff for having power steering. The fluid level is fine and the belt is tight, the pump doesn't whine or squeel. The car feels as if the power steering isn't even there ? Help not an emergencey by any strech of the imagination

as always thanks for you help

Dunno if it will work on your car but you can have someone inside the car turning the wheel back and forth & you under the hood. Listen and you should be able to hear if the pump is working or not. I tried this on a 79 camaro and determined that pump worked. Some guy I know tore it out because his steering was hard to turn only to find out that afterwards it became impossible to steer. Put it back in tried to listen I we could hear the little thing pumping.

i dunno....but

How long have you had the car?? if you just got it, i think it might be just a matter of gettin used to the excellent feel of our steering....

the only other thing i can think of is the tire pressure...is it low??? that might make it feel 'boggy'.... it should be at 32....

Well I've had the car for exactley one week now, I don't know if anythings wrong but compared to other cars with power steering it feels aweful ? should it ? and the tire pressure is fine in fact thats the very first thing I did was adjust the tire pressure when I bought it.

hmmmmmm....

Psuedo, Psuedo, where art thou???

Nope I had a 91 crx without powersteering and it felt better than this does with power steering.

Well, thats your problem right there, you drove a Honda before...:D :D :D :D

Seriously though, the steering of the 1st gen, is really quite good, very responsive and good info sent back to the driver. It is on the stiff side as far as power steering goes, but i find that most helpful when under racing or spirited driving conditions.

BTW, what about tire size, width in particular. Where the CRX tires as wide as the Protege tires? just a thought...

mazda disciple March-29th-2002 01:22 AM

my crx tire were 13/185/85's and my pro's tires are 14/190/65'2 but if thats how its supossed to feel thats great I wasn't sure is all, also I think the fluid in there might be the original fluid from the factorey ( hmm that might be it too )
