motor swap
 

Im looking into doing a motor swap. I want to do the 1.8 T motor into my 92 323. I know corksport can get motors, but i was wondering if anyone has done it and how hard it will be. I know a shop that said they can and will do it but they want like $1000 for the install. Is it possible to do it myself without totally fucking my car up?

You can obviously do it yourself, but you have to be pretty knowledgable. If you've never done it before and are 'not sure' then your best bet is to take it to a shop.

Dude, if they can do it for $1000 go for it! That's kinda hard to believe considering most spend ~$3000, but if they say they can do it and will put it in writing before they start and will gurantee it won't be any higher than what they quote, do it!!!!!!!!!

BP-26 GTX Engine w/Turbo -- $895 (plus $165 freight from CA to OH)

LX 5-Spd Transmission -- $300
ACT Performance Clutch -- ~$250
Blitz SuperSound BOV -- $100 (Used)
TurboXS Manual Boost Controller $90
Big Front Mount Intercooler-- $150 (ebay)
Greddy Intercooler piping -- ~$150
Greddy flex pipe fittings -- ~$100 (not needed, but I like these better than the ones that come in the univ. piping kit)
2.5" High-low Catalytic Converter -- $60 (ebay)
2.5" Performance muffler -- ~$100
2.5" Mandrel exhaust -- not sure on the price yet
2.5" Custom Down Pip -- not sure on the price yet
Autometer Phantom Air/Fuel Guage -- $50
Autometer Phanyom Boost Guage -- $50

Total: 3560

Plus the labor involved, to install, tune, and troubleshoot. Granted some of this stuff can be skipped and stillh ave a running engine, all of this is recommended if you want it running right. If you get an intercooler that's too big to fit under the stock bumper, you'll also need a J-spec front end.

I'm guessing he meant the shop wants $1000 for labour.

Oh, well in that case do it yourself...it'sn ot hard if you do plenty of reasearch. You don't have to be a certified mechanic or anything, but you do need to know what you're doing.

Unfortunately it takes quite a bit of cashola to get a proper setup. Definately check out Braden's site mentioned above, it'll list everything you'll need and it recommends. I might be interested to do this swap to my car eventually as well. We'll see :D
