Just a few questions guys for my '94 Pro DX SOHC

Well I've got a few questions to ask...

I just bought that cone air filter & adapter off e-bay for $18 shipped...about the cost of what a replacement OEM drop-in is, so I think I did ok.

I haven't installed it yet, I'm going to do that tomm, along with a few other things, however I took a look today and realized that I don't have enough space where my current air box is. It looks like even after I remove the air box and the resonator there still won't be enough space to put the cone w/o shoving the VAF and air hose up against the distributor, and I'm a little cautious about doing that. Can anybody who has done this mod on a car like ours give me some advice about how to place the filter. Also I noticed that there is a black tube up agains the frame of the car, behind the driver-side headlight off to the right when looking down at the engine...what exactly is this and can i take it out to make more space for the cone filter? Also, what are the performance gains/losses am I going to experience by adding a cone filter, but removing the resonator? I heard that I'll lose some torque, but gain some HP...true?

Also I plan on replacing my valve cover gasket, just have to run out and get some gasket silicone. when looking at the valve cover i took a close look at the engine and noticed that I may need to replace another gasket. to the left of the engine, above the timing belts there is some sort of black cap with i think 4 bolts on it, first off, what is this? and secondly, it looks like the gasket there is a little warped and has torn in one place and thus is not sealing whatever cap that is, is this bad or not important or what? im trying to be specific, but with my limitied knowledge thats not too possible, if it would help I'll take a picture tomm and post it.

Also I was wondering what kind of gain I would get from doing that transistor mod to my ECU. I've done a search on it and seen some mixed responses. Some people say it does nothing at all...some people say it will actually harm your car, may cause the engine to burst into flames...and some people say that while it does lower your gas mileage slightly (by as much as 1-2 MPG) it does give you a few more horsepower. I was wondering if i could get a KNOWLEDGEABLE response to this issue with a reason why it would be good, bad or negligable to do this mod. seeing as how the resistor is only like $0.60 at radioshack, it couldn't hurt my wallet too much.

Lastly, i would like to add 2 neons to my car underneath the dashboard up above where your feet go and run the power connectors to a on/off switch mounted on the dash off to the left of the driver side in that empty space which is begging for a switch. Now I'm not an electrician but I do know how to follow a schematic, so if anyone has done anything like this or knows how, I would appreciate the help GREATLY.

I know this was a book, so thanks for reading this far and thanks even more for responding! :D

P.S. also I've determind that the rattling my car does while in gear and stopped is due to a bad engine mount, however I'm not sure which one. Do our cars have a transmission mount (this is a 94 dx AT), cause if so I'm not sure if it's my rear engine mount or my transmission mount...If we do have a transmission mount, are they both visible from the bottom of the car and in what approximate location are they? Thanks again.

Well I just got done installing my new cone air filter, took me about 30 mins to do it all..that s, remove the old air filter and box and both resonator tubes and get them out, and attach the new adapter and filter.

my car starts, which is the good news..havent gone riding yet. i also took off the negative terminal from the battery for about 5 mins and let it sit so that the computer will reset. i definately heard a noise difference when i gave it some gas in neutral which i liked.

im going to do the valve cover gasket tomm...i was wondering if i could still get some feedback from you guys though! thanks!

shorten your thread and ask the questions up front, don't go into too much detail, and if you have 4000 questions, settle with a couple general and maybe you'll be able to narrow it down from thread answers... my eyes hurt man, what is it you want to know again?
