Just bought a pro DX with DOHC

First off, I just bought a 94 protégé with only 70,000 miles. I love this car! I have been looking for one with low miles for a long time. I live in Missouri and I drove all the way to Milwaukee to get it. I only paid $2800. The Digital pictures the guy sent me before I bought it showed a DOHC engine, sun roof, 4 disk brakes, power windows and locks. I assumed from this that it was an LX. Even the Carfax report for the vin # said it was an LX. When I got there to pick it up I noticed that the car had DX markings. I checked the tranny and it is a G series. I just can't figure out why it says DX on the sides. There is no evidence that it has been in an accident either. Anyone know how that could happen?

he got in an accident, or the person before him got in an accident. they got new fenders that said dx on the sides instead of lx or es.

If that is the case then they did a great job with the repair, and I could live with that.

A guy I know said that if the original owner ordered it from the factory, it might have been cheaper to order a DX base model with all the options than a LX base model with all the options. He said he used to own a Ford Probe where the markings did not match the options. He said according to the original window sticker it was the basic model with all the options added at the factory. I am not sure I buy that explanation but it would explain the DX markings and the LX features. Either way I love this car, I already have a CAI with an RX7 VAF.

Ahhh-young Jedi, the VIN, the VINNNNNNN.
(damn-tooo much beer today)
JM1BG224xxxxxxxx is an example of a DX VIN.
JM1BG226xxxxxxxx is an example of an LX.
If it's got the 226 number, it's been hit and fixed very well.

Vin# is LX so I guess we are talking accident fix. Thanks for the info. I am not sure if I am more happy that it is really an LX or more sad that it was in an accident. I guess I'll take it to a body guy I know and have him give it a real good look over. It looks good to me though, except for the DX on the sides.
