Lube application database I stumbled across.

What I find interesting is, the horsepower rating of the 1.6 Liter B6 from Aug 1985 to May 1989 (2nd Gen 323 / 1st Gen F.I.):

105 Horsepower

Why would that be? Mazda Service Manual rates it at 85. And the 1.6 B6 from the next body style (1990-1994) is rated at 88 HP. Heck....... most of the engines of that size are around 85.

And why would it be wrong? Misprint? I`m not so sure that it is. If you look at several other ratings from the GTX, RX7, Honda VTEC, and others you will find those # are accurate.

Interesting if anything else.

PS: Side note.......

I was an Engine Performance Specialist for 10 years and test drove dozens of 323's. Each having their own personality like any car of course, but I know one thing is for sure.

Every 86-89 323 I test drove ran-out much stronger than the 90-94 323's. There was a noticable difference. So noticable that the 86-89 323 felt like a 1.8L compared to the 90-94 1.6L....... felt like a 20 horsepower difference like listed on the spreadsheet above.

Something to think about.

Maybe earlier SOHC have more low end than later DOHC, who have higher peak power, but lost some in low to mid range? Only dyno charts will tell the truth. Did anyone dyno 86 1.6 liter 323 :)?
I used to drive 86 Nova with 75 hp Corolla SOHC carb engine...with leaking head gasket....it felt stronger than 89 Corolla with DOHC and about 100 hp.

:confused: Both 323 1.6 B6 engines (86-89 / 90-94) are SOHC.

PS: They been rating HP at the wheels since the early 1970's. :)

Your gonna have to be much more specific than that. There are many BP's listed.

In what vehicle model section? (cause there is no *obvious* Protege section and I`m thinking they call them something else on there?)

What year specificly? Displacement? Code?

And please don`t be one of those guys who quote's entire posts, we are all capable of understanding what your words are in reference to. If you have to quote please grab the specific sentence containing the matter in which you want to address. It is too confusing and clutters the thread when people quote large areas for no reason.
