I'm new and I have a problem!! Help!!

Hi all, I just bought a 93 Protege DX (manual of course) the other day as a second car to my 94 Camaro Z28 (way to much ice here in iowa right now, and gas mileage isn't so good with my mods on that sucker).
My problem is the car will stutter and misfire and backfire when I try to get on it and once that starts it takes a few seconds to clear. It seems better when it's cold but when it warms up it gets worse. But once above 2700-3000 rpm i have no problem. So here is what I've done so far I've replaced the plugs and wires, and the cap and rotor and it is still doing it, it almost feels worse since i've done it. Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated because this thing is really ticking me off and spring is a long way off before I can pull out the 'Z' again.
Thanks,
Bob

Just so you know he is talking about the technical service bulletins, check out the link to the FAQ in the upper right of the screen. He wrote that FAQ too ;)

I'd look for the TSB for you but I gotta run.

Welcome to the forum :D

go to a shop and have them run a computer scan on it to check everything... thats if you feel the car bucking under 3000 rpms or under 35 miles an hour. i had a similar problem to that and it was the mass air flow sensor, so who knows, have it checked out

It got a lot better!!!

Finally got some free time and changed the fuel filter and that fixed it pretty much. It was getting worse, it was getting so bad it wouldn't start when it was cold. Now the only problem is that I'm still getting a hesitation when i first start in 1st gear and if I let the RPM's drop in 2nd. I've thought about resetting the ECU, does anyone think that may help?? On another note, my sig. is a little wrong now, I blew out those Audiobahn 12's within a week of hooking them up. Oops.
Later,
Bob

Update

Well I still have the hesitation, so i found Gro's auction on EBAY for a VAF and replaced mine, guess what...... it's still there
and everyonce in awhile (about once a month now, more when it's colder) it wont start period, it will flare a little but wont start and the only way to get it going at that time is to push start it, sometimes if i let it sit in direct sun for a few hours and warm everything up a little it will start. any suggestions? could it maybe the coolant temp sensor? i think that may be my next route.
thx in advance,
bob
