horn: busted

the other day i was in a local store parking lot and this blind soccer mom pulled into my space which i had been sitting there waiting for with my friggin signal on. anyway, i popped my clutch, honked and sped away. but when i finally removed my palm from the horn, there was a beastly dent and the horn was still sounding. quickly i opened the wheel and pulled the plug. so the wires are disconnected, but the dent is still there. how do i fix i? any ideas...? thanks a lot!

Take the contact plate out of the horn pad, and see if the horn pad will re-assume it's original shape. The contact plate will need to be replaced, and it's very cheap from the dealer. The DX plate cost is ~$8.00 U.S., and the LX cost is ~$14.

horn pad contact sensors cost different for everybody (its not a universal price) but usually aren't over 20 dollars from the dealership. unfortunately, if you take apart the horn assembly and remove the contact sensor pad, look at the steering wheel center piece for cracks along the center.. if you hit the horn hard enough, it's pretty much scrap. you only option on that end would be an entire new assembly with wires and all from the dealership ($60 to $100+), or you can get an entire cap from the junkyard for 10 bucks. your choice. good luck

haha, the same thing happened to me. but it went off usually around 4 or 5 in the morning as if it were possesed. I think it was condensation inside the fixture itself that grounded something. I just pulled something and now it never works. oh well.
