High Idle
 

When I start my after it's been off for a while (over an hour at least) it idles at almost 2500 rpm. If I let it sit, it takes a long time to slow down. If I drive for a few minutes, it gradually slows down to around 1500 rpm, and after maybe ten minutes, to the normal 750 rpm. For the first few minutes, the car actually idles fast enough to pull the car without touching the gas pedal! I have to keep a foot on the brake when backing out of a parking space. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It's been doing this for a long time now. Also, the outside temperature doesn't affect it; this happenes during the summer as well.

C'mon now, has anyone else had this problem?

my car does it too, but not that hi, not over 1500.

I've been paying closer attention over the last couple weeks, and the idle isn't quite as high as I thought. When it's warm out, it starts up at just over 1500, and if it's pretty cold out it'll go up to about 1800-1900. So it's not as high as I thought, but it still is high. The only thing that really bothers me about it is that it makes the car kind of wierd to drive for the first ten minutes or so. If I'm in third, going around 30mph and let off the gas, the car won't slow down at all because the engine keeps the revs above 1500. And it really pulls in 1st and 2nd without any input from the gas pedal. I'm probably not going to try and do anything about it, but I am curious if anyone know why it does this.

Grease your throttle cable and adjust your throttle stop and TPS. Sounds like its getting stuck...... I had the rubber grommet fall down to the bottom of the cable and it was causing the throttle plate not to fully close.....

my car has this problem too, it doesnt rev to high so im not that worried about it, usually my car has a very low idle and shakes alot when i car is in neutral, i was thinking about just tightening the throttle cable to the throttle body so that it has a higher rpm when my foots off the gas, do you think this would be wise or are there other approaches to it?
