Hello! I'm new on the forum

Forgive me, english is not my language
Hi, I just found this site on the net and I'm very happy to be here.
I bought a 93 protege gt with 250 000 km on it 1 year ago.
I would like to know if it's common to this twin cam 1.8 liter engine to reach over 300 000km (270 000 km today)? I only burn 1 oil liter for each 5000 km. However, my brother, which use to have it before, was driving quite fast. Changing gear around 7500 rpm (cut off). Anyway, I'm glad because it's still in good shape. What should be the first mod to get around 150 hp? Should I swap this engine? I know that I'm faster than a v6 precidia, a 2002 celica gt and 98 neon sport. Which engine could be better for my little protege GT then the BP-DE 16 valves twin cam engine?:)

Bonjour et Bienvenue chez Club Protege!

There are plenty of parts and mods to make to your BP engine to make it more powerfull. Pistons, cams, exhaust, intake, etc...It's a very strong engine. You can add a turbo easily from a J-Spec 323 GTX/GTR, they have nearly the indentical engine, except it's a turbo. You can swap just the turbo parts over or the entire engine. (the BPT) There are 2 versions of the BPT, the GTX version w/180hp and the GTR version (rare and hard to find, also expensive) w/220hp. The GTR engine is pretty different, although they all look pretty much the same from the outside, the GTR has much stronger internals.

You could also swap in a 2.5L V6 from a 626/MX6 or a Probe GT. This is a bit more work, as other suspension parts will also need to be swaped, but it's about the same cost as the turbo engine, give or take a few hundred. You have 2 choices, the US/Canada 2.5L V6 w/170hp (KL03) or the J-Spec version (KLZE) w/ 200hp.

The BP is one of the BEST BUILT 4cyl's to EVER come from Japan.....:bt:

218,000 *miles* on my car with NO engine problems - in kilometers, i'm thinking that's over 300K??
