headwork
though none of you here have the 1.9L *lol* i just thought i'd share though. i got my spare head into the machine shop today for all the work thats getting done to it:
- shaved .055, you can actually go to .060 on the 1.9L heads but you then have to start shortening bolts, dowels, etc....not what i want to start fucking with - port and polish, basically just making all of the factory machine marks dissapear, nothing special - high lift cam installed, stock specs: 432 lift 215 dur. (exaust/ intake lift dur. the same) the new cam wich i picked up for a good price is the one that Gude used to make, 475 lift 252 dur. and yes this cam DOES work with all the stock equipment - new cam seal and valve guide seals and since i got referred to this shop by a friend of the owner total cost is 120 bucks, not to bad... now all i need is my new engine  |
holy crap thats cheap... sweet deal!

just a question for you, shaving, porting and polishing alone, no cams, what kind of a gain can you expect to get... i've got a buddy thats dieing to do it on my car, just can't trust him till i do my research.
peace |

Originally posted by RX7_2ner I'm gonna say 5-10hp. Most newer OHC heads flow very well. So, I wouldn't expect much from a simple port&polish. |
i'm trying to get a general idea guys, thats all, just about how much you can shave off the head, what kind of a gain you can expect from it. the guy thats doing this is used to working on chevy's. honestly, i have to look deeper into this crap before i even bother. to tell you the truth, i'm probably not going to get it done till later this summer. i don't trust my friend to do it, nor do i think my engine would last that long if i let him touch it. and obviously, if you have 1900+ cc's and i'm limited to 1823cc's, we're talking big differences in the amount of material that you're able to remove from the engine to increase capacity.

Hey, I've got the 1.9, thanks for posting! :) I've been actually thinking of doing some engine work to the 1.9 after this autocross season, just to see how far I can take it.
With your TB swap and exhaust, etc.. have you noticed a decrease in torque at all, at lower rpm ranges (taking off, launching, etc...) I had a 3.8TB on for a while, but took it back off since i seemed to be able to launch better than with the 3.8tb. How much will the increased compression and different lift/duration affect the powerband? is it going to be a high-winding engine, or a more torquey 'punchy' engine, do you think? --sarge |
