Got it on Friday!

After a couple of weeks of "looking" while being out of town, I spotted a black LX last weekend at a tiny used car lot and stopped to check it out. It is a black '93 LX 5 speed with only 53k miles. The dealer buys cars cheap and fixes them up and sells them to dealers. This car, he had bought in '97 from a bank that had repo'ed it. It had 50k miles when he bought it. He never got around to selling it because it needed a few things and he was making more money on newer cars. In the end, the car even sat for a couple of years. They had just brought it back to life and tuned it up, put a new fuel pump, etc. and I showed up.

It runs really good and feels nice. It had a few details like pretty oxydized paint, one of the rear windows won't work, the parking brake didn't work as well as the fuel gauge and it needs a new oxygen sensor. I decided to buy it as is and fix it myself because they don't know anything about Mazdas there and they were talking about spending a lot of money on parts (that it didn't need and I would get charged for in a sales price).

I cleaned and waxed a part of the trunk lid to test and it brought back nice shiny paint. Can't wait to get busy on the whole car paint. We took out all the seats and cleaned them really good as well as the carpet. I fixed the parking brake, the fuel gauge and a few other things that I noted. Had to take the manifold out to take it somewhere to have someone remove the oxygen sensor. It is prety much rust-welded in there and I was only succesful in stripping the nut. Maybe I'll buy a header and chuck the whole thing while I'm at it.

Once I'm done with the details, then I'll start looking at mods, especially suspension.

Woo-Hoo!
