See the quality of gas is going down. I had to replace 2 injectors on my Maxima because of the poor quality of gas. When its warm out, the gas milage goes up. When its cold out the gas milage goes down. That is because of the mixture they use to water down the gas. They had to remove it from Alaska because it didn't work. I think that they found the MTB's in our drinking water and they had to remove the additive and now they are using a new one. If you use Sunoco 94 octain, the car runs they way it should. But its too expensive. Unless your that rich and you drive a Protege so nobody will know that you have a lot of money. :) I really didn't feel a difference with super unleaded in the Protege, but an increase in gas milage. Last fill up I got 26 miles per gallon. We do need better quality of gas.

Hey everyone. I've got a '91 DX SOHC 1.8L with 235,200 miles on it. On two trips this past few months I averaged 37 MPG highway during mountain driving. The last trip, from Spokane, Washington to just north of Boise and back to Baker City, Oregon was a 510-mile run on one tank. I too must have pessimistic gauge, I was more below "E" than ever before. I trust my Mazda as much as the day I bought it. Even at 110 degrees in the desert of Central Washington I can zip along with the A/C on at 80-90 mph (not that I would do that to my car on a daily basis).

It looks like $3.00+ per gallon has caused a lot of interest in gas milage!!!

My 91 DX gets 28mpg in town.

On the highway, it's speed dependant....
at 50-55 MPH it gets 42-45 MPG (but I can't stand to do that too often)....
at 60-65 MPH it gets 36-38 MPG and
at 70-75 MPH it's 30-32 MPG.
