Fuel pressure regulator

:dunno: Has NE1 ever had a fuel pressure regulator go bad? Describe the symptoms please.

no fuel at the injectors...only sympton. What problems are you having?

The engine on occasion will stumble, i.e., not pick up the throttle. When it does this it will sometimes quit running. I can then wait a few minutes and it will restart and run fine. This seem to be very random.

I have just tested the FPR, fuel pump, and installed a new fuel filter. Test results were all good at the upper end of the specs. Will wait to see what happens next. I really suspect that there was water in the fuel so I also added two cans of "Heet" to a full tank.

water seperator may help but I would caution against using too much. When you dilute your fuel you run the risk of washing your cylinder walls and causing ignition problems.

Do the first gen cars have a "schroeader valve" on the fuel rail? This is a little nipple that looks like a valve stem on a tire. It may be covered by a little cap. If you DO have on turn the key on but do not start the car. take a small screw driver and gently push that middle button in the valve down. fuel should SPRAY out of there...not trickle. This will let you know if you're getting fuel through the regulator and if so how much pressure it has. Some auto stores even have tiny guages you can screw onto the valve so when you start it up it'll show you exactly how much pressure you have at the rail so you can better determine the problem

Problem solved. Found to be a intermittant engine coolant temperature signal. Replaced ECT. So far runns good again.
