Fudge
I blew my main fuse yesterday, replaced it and now the car wont start. It was misting a bit when i replaced it, do you think some water could have gotten on the connectors? I have power to my radio, headlights and everything else, just wont do anything when i put the key in start. Please hlep me, 91 EGT.

sounds like a connector is fried from the battery to the main fuse box. i had an old Starlet that did the same thing. everything else would work just fine, but the car would even turn over or click (solenoid sound). check the wires from the battery first. :)

Not the wires, they are just fine. I snipped a wire that connects to the fuse box by accident yesterday when this all started but i used a butt connector to fix it. I checked that fuse and it is not broken. A fuse is visibly broken in half when it blows right? Man this is really pissing my off.

Check your other fuses. More than one could have possibly blown. Do you know what the wire that was cut went to? Did the fuse actually blow when u cut that wire?
|
That wire went from the fuse to the check engine light,it was the "meter" one in the fuse box. Dont ask me why i cut it, i was not thinking at all. I got it towed today, mechanic said it shouldnt be a problem to fix quick. Thanks for the help guys.

Alright man, check it out.. I have a 91 EGT too. I had a very similar problem along with a billion other Escort owners. It might be the ignition switch... Does it start if you pop the clutch ? I say you go to autozone and buy a new ig switch for 25 bucks like i did. I went to the JY and they charged me 20.. i was like wtf. Anyways.. thats just my 2 cents.

I got fed up with it and just got it towed to the shop. Charged me 120 cause it took them 3 hours to figure it out, but im happy, i have a car again.
|
.....you gonna tell everyone who was trying to help and the people reading the post what the problem was??......
|
ya lol, I'm all in suspense.
|
The problem was that I was putting in some turbo guages, cut the wrong wire, it pulled out of the socket and was grounding itself to the chassis. I tried fixing, but got nowhere.
|
Yeah i figured it wasnt a fuse after a while. I then just got my shop to fix it.
