Engine Dies when taking a curve
 

I have a 94 Protege LX Aut 100,500 miles. For some reason when I take a curve the engine dies. I have the injectors cleaned, keep tank full of gas, replaced battery but keep doing it. Has anybody has the same problem. Any advice would be greatly appreicatted. I need some ideas before I take it to a shop to get ripped off?

Hmmm, I don't think I've heard that before... Maybe your fuel pump is malfunctioning? Is there an in-tank pump? Maybe it has a shitty electrical connection?

I am not sure about the turn thing, but do check your spark plugs and wires. Also inspect the intake hose for cracks. That is often the case.....

WAG. Something electrical. :)

Something when you corner is likely grounding out. Hard enough to diagnose with the car in front of you, much less over the internet. As a suggestion, try pulling on the keys while the engine is running (to eliminate the ignition switch). Then look for things under the hood that might move under cornering.

Sounds like your taking the logical steps in eliminating the fuel system I would change the fuel filter. If problems persist have the fuel pressure checked.

I have this same issue with My Lincoln Mark VII. But with that car it is known problem with the baffles in the fuel tank. I am not sure what would cause this in the Pro. But keep doing what your doing... process of elimination.

i had this EXACT same problem on my car(engine practically turns off for like 1/2 a sec when turning) . Unfortunately i don't remember how i fixed it. :-( Sorry

i had this problem with my old lincoln town car sig. series...(ghetto sled)

i never could figure it out and so i just let it die and re-started it all the time....so likely its not a problem that needs to be fixed immediately so save your money

and take it to the dealership.....thats what i would do...

but i'd try those ideas up top first

OH YEAH...AND IT DID HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY POWER STEERING....



I'M GUESSING THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON SLOW TURNS WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY.......

do you have any problems with a stall? have to two foot at a red light or anything of the sort? the protege is an absolute PIECE OF SHIT when it comes to intake problems... should that be the problem. i've had everything possible replaced in my air and fuel system replaced due to miscellaneous problems, such as when accelerating and going under 25 mph or so, and the engine would sound like it was dieing out. you could be dealing with a number of things: leaking mass air-flow hose ($84 bucks), bad mass air-flow sensor ($120 aftermarket part plus $40 to $50 labor), bad fuel pump ($500 to $600), bad air filter or fuel filter... or an entirely different problem, which could be likely, just a leak in your power steering or maybe slipping belts when the car is shifted into a corner (though i think i could have been on crack when i thought that one up)... describe your problem more in depth, do you notice any hesitation any other times? is the shear problem and the only problem that your car simply dies totally when you corner or does it just hesitate as you're accelerating out of a turn? does the car at any time just totally stall out? when you're cornering, is it a loss of power... like lights dim out, or does the engine rpm's just suddenly drop... then a second later pick back up? what about turning around in a parking lot or backing out of a driveway and turning the wheel, do you notice any problems?

oh and one more thing, what the hell would a spark plug have to do with the car crapping out ONLY on a turn? as far as electrical problems, slipping belts is the only thing typical of such a problem.... from some of the suggestions on here, lets just say you blew a lifter :)

It doesn't do it while the car if you turn the wheel all the way and the car is not moving, right?
