ECU question? Please Reply

I am planning on doing the Bp DOHC 1.8L swap in my 1993 sohc mx3. I'm going to the junkyard on monday and I need some answers to my questions. I don't want to go and get the wrong ECU.

1.What is the seriel numbers for the protege lx ECU? This way I can know that i'm getting the right ECU for the Bp DOHC 1.8L engine.

2.Does the engine harness plug into the Ecu by two plugs? I think its two plugs but i just want to be sure.

3. What year ECU should i get? I don't what to get an ODB 2 ECU.

jap-spec?!?

j-spec...not jap-spec... "jap" = racial slur
let's all examine ourselves so that others may not.

Thanks for the reply, I have both wiring diagrams to the 1993 sohc mx3 and the 1993 protege ecu harness. It's almost the same harness. It's only off by the colors of a few wires.

BP01?

I am doing a BP swap into my '91 323 and got an ECU from a '91 DOHC Protege automatic tranny. Mine says BP01 on it. The wrecker I got it from said it would work with the manual transmission. What do you guys think? I need to figure this out before I can't take it back anymore. Is there any difference between the ECU in an automatic and a manual? Or are the differences only mechanical? Any info, help, advice would be much appreciated.

How much "cc" are the protege injector on the bp engine?

demoninvictus March-20th-2003 03:13 AM

1.8 lt = 1890cc ??? i think thats the cubic centimeters, not sure

zenilder March-20th-2003 12:04 PM

the injector size is like 220 I believe.

GroHarlem (or anyone else that might know), how about the ECU from a EGT? I pulled one from a yard, and it has two plugs. It also had a relay near the ECU, which was what concerned me.
Does the Pro LX have a relay that's right next to the ECU?

I assume I can use the ECU with no probs, but I'm more curious about what the relay does. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an EGT?

Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies. At first i will just swap a Bp 1.8L dohc engine into my 1993 Sohc mx3 and my next step will be to turbo it. I know I have the option to get the bpt engine but money is going to cost alot more to do everything at once. I'm going to take it step by step. Anyways here are my questions.

1. How much pound of boost can the bp 1.8L dohc block take before blowing?

2. Does the 1990 to 1994 bp 1.8L dohc engine bring the transmission that tells the speed of the car to the cluster by a cable that comes out the transmisson?

3. Do you guys know any website where i can go and get performance parts for that engine like forged pistons and rods?

4. How much horses does the bp 1.8L dohc engine come with?

Hey Wil - didn't you have bpt parts from a gtx motor to turbo your existing bp, like mani, intake, turbo, etc? If you do, what's your plans for those parts since you have a gtr now?

Can I use the 93 SOHC MX3 transmission on the BP 1.8L DOHC engine? I know the transmission is not as strong but its the only one I will have because I am getting the engine from a junkyard.

I also forgot to ask one more question about the 1990-94 Bp 1.8L dohc. Does the Bp engine have a knock sensor?

Check my site below, you'll find what you need there. MX-3 and 323 and Pro's are basically the same
