I had the same problem. It turns out one of my spark plugs was loose. It eventualy popped all the way out. I thought I blew my engine. I tightened them up and it solved the problem. I think the E-brake light is also used as a warning light for certain engine codes.

i had the same things as well, for me it indicated really low brake pads, and also low brake fluid

Bruce95fmla June-20th-2003 07:18 PM

I had the same problem on the 323 , but it was low brake fluid ...
never had that problem on the Protege

Morphector June-20th-2003 10:34 PM

from my experience with e brake light on a 323:
low level brake level
brake are worn
or the e-brake is a lil bit loosen, and when you take a bump the ebrake move a lil bit and the relay goes on and off :)

I had the same problem a month ago and I just filled it uop with dome fluid and she is good now

Morphector June-21st-2003 01:59 AM

On my old 323 I was upset because my horn didnt work... and I didnt want to loose my time on it...

One day a cop pulled me over, my taillights werent working, the fuse was blown, I replaced the fuse and the horn started working :D

For the turn signal it's something electrical due to the relay(my father explained to me a while ago but don't remember exactly)

e-brake light on.

A variety of brake problems can make the light come on. Worn brakes, low fluid, pad dragging, etc. all show up as the e-brake light coming on. Instead of disconnecting the light you might want to do a thorough brake check.

had the same problem for a while now, thought the light was just messed up
but i guess warn brakes are one reason right? hmm,
would this quilify for warn brakes http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...450#post243185

Liquid_Ag June-24th-2003 06:03 PM

yeah...my best friend lost control of his BMW at about 90 going through an s-curve...nailed the tree...it was a head wound, so it was instant, which i guess is good. The other one's sister was driving, and she pulled out without looking...a dually pickup hit them, flipped their truck and killed him instantly...it mad sux
