dead battery

today riding in some winter weather i had my defroster, heat, lights, wipers, and radio on, when my battery charge light came on.

i turned off the radio, heat, and defroster so i wouldnt be using as much power, a while later the light came back on and the wipers started slowing down, slower and slower as the lights were dimming, about a minute later the battery died while i was driving on the highway

i pulled over and had a friend run to the store to get me a new battery, the can runs fine for now but i dont know for how long

im not exactly sure whats wrong, i was told it might be my alternator which makes sense since my car running wasent charging my battery but i have no idea.

any info is appreciated

Same thing happened to me last winter. I had to put the car in "limp-home mode" i.e. no heat, wipers, radio etc. to make it home (barely). Mine was actually two probs, the belt AND the battery. Apparently if your battery goes to crap it puts a lot more load on the alternator which is probably why my belt fragged on me. Either way, if I was you I'd replace the alternator belt while you're checking on everything else just to make sure you don't chance getting stranded again.

Peace:bt:
