Annoying fasten seat belt warning

Hi All,

I've got a 91 Protege DX that's developed a very annoying habit recently. The fasten seat belt warning flashes & beeps constantly even though I have the sholder belt fastened!

If I lean forward or push myself back into the seat it will stop, but any bump or turn will set if off again and I've got to do the whole hokie-pokie routine all over again to get it to stop.

Something I've been doing the past few days is using my lap belt "under" the shoulder belt and that seems to keep it quiet.

Thanks for the help.

do a search before you ask questions, otherwise everyone gets all hissy fissy. here's a link for the problem seat belt

Yeah, that's one way to fix it - and I've been referring a lot of people over to that thread. I did it and it worked for a while, but now I have the problem again. That particular fix does not permanently disable the beep/light, it just cleans the winding contacts. GroHarlem used to have the instructions to permanently disable the beep/light on his other site, however if you do a search here and find a thread that references it, you'll find the site no longer exists. Of course I already knew that since he started his new site, which is still under construction and doesn't have the fix posted yet. I believe it involves shorting some wires together or something like that. I'd just rather know which wires for sure before I start snipping away :) .

Wil .... you got that document anywhere yet?
