Amazed by your 1st Gen. yet??

I was driving around today and noticed something, this car has alot of torque compared to most cars ive ridden in, from a stop and a good start the speedometer on my car just steadily and quickly goes up..and im very amazed at its great handling abilities, anyone else suprised?

Protege For Fun

:bounce: Yeah, I got a '94 Protege w/ 1.8L DOHC 5 speed. Guess one could call it a sleeper, because it doesn't really look all that sporty, even with the alloy wheels- it still resembles a passenger sedan. It was running like a finely crafted Lambrughini, until it started knocking for some strange reason. I have never ran it past 5 g on the tach, so It wasn't overwound. I dropped the oil pan and everything under there looks brand new. I bought the car back in May, with 144,000 on the odo and although there were little piddly ass things going wrong from time to time, like a new timing belt, idler and tensioner bearings, the engine was never any trouble. I pulled #1's rod cap off to look at the bearing- a new one wouldn't look any better. Crank is nice a shiny- so torqued it back together, and put the stiffener, and oil pan back on. It sounds like the #1 piston is hitting the head. Next thing on the agenda is the compression test to see if any of the valves are sticking. Still driving it everyday though- I've got to because my other vehicle gobbles gas.

Anyway, I figure if it comes down to it, I can take the head off and have it rebuilt.

It's a fun car to drive, though. :winky:

I'm not much suprised by my car's torque, as I make 116lb-ft at the wheels. I am very pleased with it though, and it pulls great from 3000RPM in any gear, and screams right up to 7400RPM.

Running a 15.4, my car is a textbook sleeper....

I drive a "94 Protege DX (auto). I'm not surprised by my car's torque either but I am quite pleased how it pulls 4500RPM's in "LOW" gear.

One of these days I'm gonna get myself an old AWD turbo (is it GTX?) hatchback. I love those things.
