Air Intake System

Can anyone tell me where to get an air intake system for a 91 sohc Protege. I have looked for a while and can not find one anywhere. I have found them for dohc but no sohc. any info will be great.

your best bet for the SOHC is to probably custom make one yourself. that's my next project. :bt:

How would I go about doing that?

you can have a muffler shop make you an intake pipe, you can buy the pipe and make it yourself, or you could try an intake from a different car, and modify it to fit your car. i believe 2.5" diameter piping is what is recommended. :D

If i made one myself(which doesnt sound very hard), I would still want to powder coat it a certain color. How would i do this?

you can click here to check out a custom intake how-to. as far as powdercoating, check in the phone book under powdercoating, and it'll probably tell you to see coatings-protective section. you can also paint it with some high temp engine paint which should look good as well. :D

it's been recommended to leave the resonator box on. if you're talking about the intake tube from the res box to the throttle body, just remove the clamps. :D if not, please explain in more detail what part you're talking about.

edit: ok, i was just checking out my stock setup, and i now realize what tube you're talking about. i'm not exactly sure what it's function is, yet like i said earlier, it's been recommended to leave the resonator box on. :dunno:
