94 Protege Won't Start

Hi,

As a fairly new owner of a high mileage (235,000) 94 Protege, I encountered this problem, and am 'shooting in the dark' as to where to look next.

I had the check engine light come on, and the car died. I did the spark test, no fire from the coil. I replaced the coil, and the car ran fine for one day. Then, the check engine light came on again and the car died. I have since checked and replaced cap, rotor, spark plug wires, and ignition control module, and it still won't start. There is no spark from the coil.I have since checked for bad wiring, cleaned all the ground terminals, and still no go. Where do I look next?

Thanks for all of you who can help me diagnose and fix this problem.

Jim :)

Hi Ghettopro,

Thanks, but this car has had regular maintenance done by the previous owner, which I am trying to keep up on. I appreciate the post. Hopefully, someone who has dealt withthis problem will read this and steer me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Jim

Do you have a haynes manual? look up how to check the diagnostic codes. adn post what the codes are. that is a good place to start.

you said you're not getting spark, so follow backwards from the coil with a test light.

yeah use a test light to check voltage on the coil from the Batt.

Since you have your CEL (check engine light) on you might as well check the codes by;
-jumping the "TEN" and "GROUND" on your diagnosis box in your engine bay close to the brake reservoir. (key ON engine OFF)

Count how many times the CEL will blink then read ur haynes manual or if u dont have a manual post the how many times it blinks.
