92 pro stalls on right turn

my 92 protege stalls on a right turn but only when the gas level gets to 1/2 tank or less. if you straighten the car out , it picks back up and goes on. sometimes it dies on a real hard and long turn ive checked every thing in the tank and it seems ok ! any one got a idea? thanks

weak fuel pump? bad fuel filter? those would be my best to guesses.

thanks fst323... i put a new fuel filter on it when we had the head off. the pumps pumping fine. i even took it out and pumped water through it to see if it might be blowing gas back in the tank , giving me weak pressure. it acts like its sucking air. on 1/2 tank of gas its not real bad, but the lower the fuel level the worse it gets. and by 1/4 or less , the slightest lean of the car will stall it. and as long as the car is going straight.. there are no problems at all. the car will fly ! its really got me puzzled

hmmm...that is rather odd. maybe your car is just possessed, or doesnt like you. ;)

seriously though, i have no idea at this point. anybody else have any clues?

my 2000 mercury cougar did that, when the gas was low. i was told it did that because there was two gas pick-ups in the tank and the bottom one would get cloged with junk faster.
i dont know if the protege is like that are not, but when i take a 90 deg turn real fast mine does that sometimes.

when you take the fuel pump out there is a sock-like filter on the bottom of the pump it could be clogged. If it is replace it and drain the gas out of the tank(drain plug on bottom of the tank) flush it with some clean gas plug the tank up and then fill it up. also check the connections on the fuel pump it's self or on the top plate.I myself would replace the pump aswell.

Or to drain the fuel you could just cut a hole in the tank with a torch preferably... :)

thanks PROTO 420... i flushed the tank and went ahead a put a new sock on it already . the old one looked clean but i figured what the heck . im going to go ahead and put a new pump on it i guess. iv'e ran out of options . i checked the connections and everything and it all looks ok !

pro2go.... i was going to use your advice but my oxygen bottle was empty ! maybe next time

lol, the BG chassis is notorious for this problem. the cause of this is in the fuel pump design. this is not much you can do about it. keeping a above a 1/2 full tank of gas helps and a new FPR, and pump will aid in inhibiting the stall.

Kenspro keep Use posted on this, i have sort of that problem,my car sort of sputters every now an then when I step on the gas really hard but nouthing like the problem your having with turning, I'm starting with new spark plugs and wires and work my way back, with pump filter ect ..... until I find the soulution, keep us posted GOOD luck.......

kenspro February-22nd-2004 09:06 AM

ok ! thanks guys.. i may try to figure out some sort of modification and see what happens if it still acts up with the new pump and fpr. keeping it full of gas is not a problem ... i just hate to let IT win !!! i'll let you know if and what i come up with !!!!
